When is the best time to buy a new boat?

6 reasons why the Fall is your biggest opportunity to save

When you’re dreaming of purchasing your first (or next) new boat, it’s natural to wonder: When is the best time to buy a new boat?

Winter is a great time to beat the crowds to the newest offerings as they’re rolling off of the factory floor. Winter is also known as Boat Show Season, a time to see what new products are on offer from manufacturers like Legend Boats. Spring is exciting as it offers the shortest window between your purchase and actually hitting the water. Summer, of course, is peak boating season.

But the biggest and best time to save is in the Fall, and we have no less than six reasons to back that up.

A note from Legend’s Director of National Sales:

As many of our customers know, the past few years have presented challenges to our available inventory levels.

First, supply chain issues limited our ability to bring in sufficient inventory to meet even our usual levels of demand. Second, a radical increase in interest in boating meant demand was higher than ever.

You might expect that we’d think that was good news, but it meant we weren’t able to get everyone out on the water. Our mission isn’t to sell boats; it’s to create memories.

The great news is that our inventory levels are back to normal! What this means for you is that your nearby Legend dealer has loads of boats available for you with incredible savings.

Read more below to find out all the reasons why the Fall is the best time to save.

Jesse Davis
Director of National Sales, Legend Boats

1. Boat dealers are eager to make deals in the Fall

Every year, dealers have a difficult question to ask themselves: How many boats am I going to sell this year? Lead times are long, so dealers have to answer that question before the previous boating season is even over.

As a result, come the Fall, dealers typically find themselves in one of two situations:

  1. Out of stock. They underestimated demand, and they sold out of every boat they ordered.
  2. Too much remaining stock. They overestimated demand, and now they have extra boats lying around and eating into their cash flow.

In theory, of course, there’s a 3rd option: They ordered exactly the right amount of boats, and ordered the right ones, too. Short of a functioning crystal ball, however, all dealers fall into one of the two scenarios above.

What that means for you, dear boater, is that the fall is the best time to buy a new boat with big savings. Any boats remaining in inventory by the Fall will get progressively discounted until it’s sold.

In other words: Never will your negotiating power be stronger than when speaking to a dealer with a yard full of boats and a rapidly approaching winter season.

2. Demo boats models become available in the Fall

Every year, boating companies are pushing the envelope for what’s possible in boating. But those innovations are useless if no one knows about them.

That’s why virtually every boat dealership asks its top executives and sales people to take on demonstration boats for the boating season. It gives them an opportunity to show off what’s new and exciting.

By the Fall, those demo boats return to inventory and are made available at a discount. With just a single season of use, these boats represent the cutting edge of boating – the very best the dealer has to offer. You get the benefit of knowing, by the nature of who was driving them, that they were driven by absolute boating experts. Which means they were well taken care of and maintained by people who loved their demo boats dearly.

And now, the very best is available for you to purchase, practically brand new, for radically less, making it a great time to buy a boat.

3. Scratch and Dent Specials become available in the Fall

Nobody’s perfect. Sometimes things happen on the manufacturing floor and don’t get caught until they’re received by the dealer. Sometimes things happen during transportation.

During the peak boating season, these “damaged goods” are typically kept out of sight and out of mind. But in the fall, as inventory starts to dwindle, dealers bring out these Scratch and Dent Specials to keep the sales momentum going.

Would you be willing to accept a dent in your boat if it reduced the price by $1,000? What about a scratch in the paint? A tear in the vinyl flooring? A little rust on an eye hook?

For those of you who are willing to sacrifice a touch of perfection, the Fall is your time to save BIG. Don’t hesitate to ask your dealer if they have any such models out back.

4. Save by buying previous year boat models

Not only do dealers need to move their in-stock inventory simply to get them off their expense sheets, they also need to make room for the next year’s hottest boats.

As dealers prepare for the arrival of the latest models, they need to clear the way. These boats are brand new and come with full warranties, yet they come with massive discounts to encourage boaters to buy now, just one more reason why the fall is the best time to buy a new boat.

Enjoy all the latest features and technology at the biggest discounts of the year.

5. Interest rates on boat purchases are typically at their lowest in the Fall

It’s not just dealerships who are looking to make deals happen by the Fall, but financial institutions too. It’s a quiet time of the year for them, so they’re happy to offer their most competitive rates to encourage lending and purchasing.

With low-interest rates, financing your dream boat becomes even more affordable. You get to spread the cost over time without breaking the bank.

Win/win!

6. Is Fall the best time to buy Luxury boats, too? Yes, yes it is

You expect to see sales on entry-level boats, but you might be surprised to know the discounts apply to luxury boats as well. Whether you’re looking for a premium pontoon, a versatile deck boat, or a rugged aluminum family and fishing boat, the Fall offers the most affordable deals of the year. You’ll find a wide range of options at your nearest Legend dealer that suit your budget and preferences. You’ll have a great selection to choose from, ensuring you find the perfect boat for your needs.

With Fall in the air, it’s only natural to be turning your attention towards Halloween and pumpkin spice lattés. But it’s also the best time to start planning for next year’s boating season, because it’ll be here sooner than you think.

Dealers are eager to make deals, and you can take advantage of savings on leftover in-stock inventory, demo boats, scratch-and-dent specials, previous year models, and fantastic interest rates.
